Industry Standard: Rokoko 3D Motion Capture

Here at King Penguin, we rely on a bunch of tools to keep pumping out killer work. Whether they are computer programs, graphics engines, or other pieces of tech and hardware, we can’t do this stuff without it. So, every once in a while, we want to spotlight things that get us excited to do our jobs, while also making our work better. We bring you: Industry Standard.

In our never-ending quest to make the coolest content possible, we are always on the lookout for ways to innovate and stand out even more. Our 3D models have been incredibly important to our Sport Science pieces, and as we dive further into that world, we want to have the freedom to explore more sports, athletes, and moves. Lately, that pursuit has led us to motion-capture technology from Rokoko. We promise this isn’t an ad (but if Rokoko wants to send us free stuff, we aren’t opposed), we are just super excited to experiment with motion capture.

Motion Capture technology has been pretty limited to the public until recently, so we can’t wait to get our hands on some of the same tech that makes things like NBA 2K possible. We’re ready to do our best impressions of old batting stances, famous highlights, and whatever else we can think of. Who knows, maybe we’ll figure out a way to incorporate some sick air guitar into a project one day! The Rokoko gear will let us have more fun and more freedom within our work, both of which are top priorities at King Penguin. We’re still only daydreaming about everything we’ll be able to create, but definitely keep your eyes peeled for everything coming down the pipe.
